BBC RADIO 1 ANNOUNCE WEEKLY DOWNLOADABLE SHOW

Jamz Supernova - BBC Radio 1Xtra

BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra today announced changes to the station's schedules, including plans for a brand new downloadable Playlist show on Radio 1 that will feature an hour long mix of themed music, hosted and curated by a different DJ, artist or personality each week.

Forming part of the station's schedule from January 2016, Radio 1's Playlist will take place Thursday evenings from 9-10pm and will include mood, theme and event based playlists that will be available for download via the BBC iPlayer Radio app. Examples include 'Daniel P. Carter’s Greatest Rock Songs Ever', 'Ellie Goulding's Running Mix', 'Annie Mac’s Ibiza Classics' and ‘Grimmy’s Greatest Big Weekend Performances'. The weekly Radio 1 Playlist show will be produced by BBC Scotland.

Phil Taggart, who currently hosts the Thursday evening (9-10pm) Radio 1 slot will remain a part of the station, hosting the Sunday night future music show (10pm-1am).

In changes to 1Xtra's schedule, there will be a new future-facing R’n’B show on Tuesday evenings (10pm-1am), presented by Jamz Supernova. We would like to express our gratitude to Cameo, who currently hosts the slot and has been at 1Xtra since 2004. Jamz will continue to host the weekend 1-4pm show on the station.

In other 1Xtra news, Sian Anderson will be going on maternity leave this autumn, with grime DJ Logan Samajoining the station from 18th November to cover her Wednesday evening 10pm-1am show for the following three months.

Ben Cooper (Controller, Radio 1 and 1Xtra) says: "Radio 1 continues to innovate with the way we present and distribute the new music that our listeners love, and I’m excited to see whose playlists I’ll be able to download to my phone. Across the industry, whether it be Spotify, Apple, or the BBC, we are all experimenting with reaching new audiences with audio in new ways.”

Rhys Hughes (Head of Programmes, Radio 1 and 1Xtra) says: “I’m absolutely delighted that Jamz Supernova will be joining the 1Xtra specialist family with a 3 hour programme dedicated to future RnB. I’m also very happy that Logan Sama is taking over the Grime reigns while Sian Anderson is on maternity leave.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cameo for his fantastic contribution to 1Xtra over the last decade and wish him all the best for the future.”

Jamz Supernova says: “I’m super excited to be joining the 1Xtra specialist line-up and I can’t wait to share three hours of my musical world on Tuesday nights.”

Logan Sama says: “After all the love and support the 1Xtra listeners have shown me for my SixtyMinutes residency, I am really excited to be keeping Sian Anderson's show warm for her for the next couple of months. I will be bringing the full spectrum of this wonderful music called UK Grime to the station from foundation legends, bright young artists and innovative current producers.”
